Time to share our Community Reading for the Week! We asked Oakland reader and staff member Rowan for his take on the week ahead starting today, Sunday April 24th. For this reading they are using The Poet's Tarot.
The Star: Lucille Clifton
Despite the struggles we face, there is a triumphant beauty that lives inside of us, an inner fire that keeps our hearts alive. And when we become the most honest versions of who we are, we not only empower ourselves to live our truths but we also light the way for others.
This is part of what poet Lucille Clifton shared with the world through her art. While exploring the experience of being a black woman in America, she created profound images of courage and beauty that have moved generations.

these hips are big hips
they need space to
move around in.
they don’t fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.
they don’t like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top!
